Case in point |
A successful, seasoned commercial dental office
management solution needed to present itself in more current
terms. Aligning its practice management program styles closer to
those of the latest editions of Microsoft Windowstm.
The challenge, take the current product
(COM-based code) and give it a new face to meet customer
expectations without breaking the bank and without inducing
substantial upgrade fees due to the cost of the upgrade process. |
In common coding fashion the original product
used custom crafted routines to streamline coding and in some
cases for use in other areas of the product. Now, those custom
routines were becoming a bottle neck in addition to the aging
presentation. |

The big question: What was this commercial
software company looking at in terms of time and cost to make
these needed changes? |
With a little research Jim found DBI and its
Studio Controls for COM component software, which just happens
to contain a set of appointment scheduling components perfectly
suited to their need and choice of development environments.
Jim downloaded an evaluation license of Studio Controls for COM
over the weekend and tested them out. |
On Monday morning he made a phone call to DBI
asking a few pointed questions of the components and how he
could get the type of interface presentation he wanted. Armed
with the answers and a line of code Jim set off to fully test
the controls. The next day Jim purchased the full
development license and was off to the races. |
Wednesday rolled around and Jim's partner checks
in to see how things are going and inquires of a potential
development time line, and if there was a projected cost yet -
"let me show you" Jim says. |

By Thursday Jim and his team were preparing to
release the upgraded version of their software for commercial
distribution to their customers.
In Jim's words. "Dude, these controls rock, they're fast -
lightening fast! they kick butt. Also, I don't have high
expectations for technical documentation in general but your
component documentation is awesome! It made our job so easy and
look at what we've done in three days!"
